Rambling From The Roost: Volume 24

The little garden that thinks it’s big, a barn update, and a porch that’s finally coming together.

Hi there, friend— pull up a chair, because I have things to tell you. The kind of things best shared over something cold and something good, because summer is doing her very best right now, and I am here for every single minute of it.

Let’s start in the garden, shall we? Our little plot is punching well above its weight this season. We have been picking lettuce — actual lettuce, from the ground, for our actual salads — and I am not over it.

Also? Arugula. My first time growing it, and I will never not grow it again. That peppery little green has completely won me over. The tomatoes are coming along beautifully, the kale is thriving, and honestly — the whole thing just makes me so happy every single morning.

On the flower side of things — things are getting downright gorgeous. My pale pink rose bush is reblooming, and she is so pretty I can hardly stand it.

The catmint filled my vintage vase perfectly!

The catmint is absolutely everywhere right now, which feels exactly right for late June. And my clematis — the one I was fully prepared to eulogize — has made the most miraculous comeback. Fertilizer, friends. Never underestimate what a little feeding can do for a struggling plant.

In other news from the barn — Andrew and I added three new horses to our little family! Three of the four will be racing this weekend, which means we’ll be watching closely and cheering very loudly. More on that very soon.

Inside the house, I have given the living room a little moment.

Realistic Olive Tree

A new faux olive tree — and I mean it when I say it is gorgeous and realistic — has taken up residence, and it is adding exactly the kind of effortless, organic warmth I was after. That corner has never looked better.

And oh — the covered porch. This is the project I keep teasing you about, and I promise it is almost ready for the full reveal.

I mean — can you even? Look at that ceiling. The tongue and groove is already stained, and she is warm and gorgeous, and I just keep walking out there to stare at it. Andrew outdid himself!

The chandelier is being delivered this week, and the corner beams are being stained as we speak. It is going to be absolutely perfect against that stained ceiling. Andrew handles the very tippy top — sensibly — and I’ll take the lower half. It is coming together so beautifully, and I cannot wait to show you the full reveal.
